Kokin Healing Blog

At the Kokin Healing Center, we’re all about education. We love to empower our patients to learn how to take good care of their bodies; and we’re always learning ourselves. In that spirit, the Healing Blog is a place for us to teach and to learn. We hope you enjoy these posts and share them with friends, family and colleagues.

Conquer Cold and Flu Season!

Feb 2, 2014

This week we've seen a tremendous amount of patients fighting off the common cold, the flu virus and even stomach viruses. Virus prevention starts in the home. Keeping your counters wiped down with antiviral and antibacterial sprays, changing your toothbrush, and washing your hands regularly are a great start.

What many people don't know is that acupuncture can stimulate the immune system. Patients in our office have a shorter duration of illness, and their symptoms are much less severe. Sinus congestion, sore throats, coughing, shortness of breath, and body aches are all less pronounced in our patients who come for treatments.

Just over the past week, I have treated over 20 sinus infections and nasal conditions. Acupuncture helps to unblock the sinus cavities as well as unclogging the ears. Patients are able to breathe better, experience less pain, and in many cases avoid antibiotics.

Really great teas for these viruses include Ginger Tea. For upset stomach and help with poor appetite, peppermint tea is excellent. For sore throat as well as upset stomach, and we have some specialized teas to help with phlegm congestion. Also taking a daily dose of certain herbal medicines will also help flu and cold prevention.
